"it's not a ride, people!"

escalators. (one of) the banes of my existence. i think at one time they were probably a good idea...in fact, the concept of them is still fairly clever: step on, walk up a moving staircase, and get to the next level in less time, and with less effort. but, as with many other "time-saving" inventions that have turned people into lazy sloths (i'm sorry, that was an uncalled for insult to the sloth species), escalators are now regarded by many as some sort of amusement park ride..."whee, i'm going up a level at a safe and moderate speed!" at least once a day, i overtake (on real stairs) a person standing on an escalator. now, if the escalator is wide enough, most of the time one can walk up the left side, and let the lazy asses stand on the right. there are only two problems with this...1) many escalators are not wide enough for this; b) just like when they're in their cars, people tend to stay on the left side, as if when they stepped onto the escalator they were suddenly transported to Britain.

but really, this is just an example of the problems endemic to our society: laziness. now, i'll be the first to admit that i procrastinate, and generally don't like to do "work", but when i see how other people live, i have to feel pretty proud of myself.

of course, having said all that, laziness is taking its toll on me, and i've had enough of talking about this subject, so i'm going to end it on that note.
