it's been a very long week, and it doesn't look like things will be slowing down for a while now. on wednesday at 5pm, we finished the last show from our temporary studio, and began the process of moving into the new one. two days later, things are progressing very well, but only after 2 very long days of hard work that have physically drained me so much that i'm starting to come down with a cold. but the process is actually quite fun. firstly, i've learned some new things - i've been involved in building the lighting grid, hanging the curtain rails and curtains, and i've even soldered some cables, which is something i enjoy doing very much (it's a menial task, of course, but one that most engineers wouldn't trust a non-engineer to do right). the best part of the situation is that i really feel like i've been a part of it all. after all, i *am* the technical director for the toronto office, and i should have a say in how some things are done. my decisions have mostly involved tweaks in the design, and added convenience features. but, small as they may be, i'm finally taken seriously in a job, and that is a gratifying experience. also, i now have an office, an extension, and next month, i'll be getting a laptop. oh, and tomorrow i'm taking the dvd recorder home from work, to play around with and learn about. that'll be a fun toy :)
so that's about it for me right now. it's kinda funny...the past 3 days have gone by very fast, even though i've been at work 12 hours a day, haven't seen or spoken to anyone but my co-workers and shawna, and haven't left the apartment except for work. i've also had no e-mail access during the day, nor have i had much opportunity to read the news or anything. it's like i've fallen off the earth, and am in my own little world. soon, i'll be sorta back to normality, though the first few weeks in the new studio are gonna be so hectic...i've calculated that i'll be working 48 hours next week. not so bad in itself, except for the fact that i'll have done about 60 hours this week including sat and sunday, and won't have a day off till next weekend.
i thought about doing the friday five, like robin did last week. i even checked out the questions this week, and they were interesting. but as it turns out, i had more to talk about today than i thought. at my current energy level, i didn't expect to have more thoughts in my brain than "i'm tired. going to sleep"
i'm tired. going to sleep.
