yesterday i mentioned our poker night this past weekend. well, i took it a step further last night by buying a big table surface for our future games. it seats up to 8 people, with places for chips and drinks, and should make the games that much more fun, because it'll have more of that casino feel to it. maybe one day we'll even try playing for real money!
that's it for now...been quiet so far today.

it's friday night...it's saturday night...it's two posts in one!
so here's a recap of friday:
i found out that we were having dinner at my parent's house, so instead of heading home on the GO train, i took the subway up, then the bus over to their house. a couple things happened that i want to write about. first off, on the subway...i was sitting, reading, minding my own business, when an orthodox jew approached and asked if i was jewish. now, let this be a lesson to anyone reading: even if you are jewish, like me, the correct answer to this quesion is NO! because if an orthodox jew is asking you that, they are like the hare krishnas of judaism. the guy actually asked if i wanted to put on tefillin - something i would have expected somewhere else, but not on the subway...fortunately, i got rid of him fairly quickly and got back to reading ("Something Rotten" by Jasper Fforde, by the way).
i guess it was about 20 minutes later when i was getting on the crowded bus. now, being an experienced bus rider, i'm familiar with certain standards of etiquette for riding the bus. these were tossed out the window with this bunch. people weren't moving to the middle of the bus, leaving a crowd of people packed by the door like sardines. but the real jackass on the bus was the guy who made a point to get a seat right in the middle of the bus...and proceeded to get off at the FIRST STOP! hey fucknut, if you're getting off at the first stop, get on the bus LAST, let someone else have the seat and stay near the door so that you don't have to plow through everyone!
so that was friday...saturday is a shorter story. we went out for shane's birthday...beer bistro downtown. good beer, a few laughs. then we went up to dave and christina's place and played poker. good times...we'll definitely have to do that again.
now i'm getting yelled at for being lazy...and for once, i don't think i was being lazy.

oh the humanity!
last night, my new ultimate team was defeated...no, defeated is too light a word...we were demolished, humiliated, raped up the ass and then mocked...
22-4 was the final score. the thing is, i'm not upset that we lost. after all, it's still only our second game together, and several of our players have never played the game before. it's cool...i'm happy to be playing with really nice, friendly people. and as Homer said in The Iliad, "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how drunk you get." (or was that homer simpson?)
no, what really bothers me is that the other team looked to be too powerful for our division - in fact, looking at the team's profile, i see that their captain also plays in a competitive division! they've apparently been together for 3 years, and they call plays, and are organized. long story short: they're good. doesn't really seem fair to group them with newbies.

ok...now i'm pissed off. i worked hard on a good post and then thanks to some dumb server error, it's lost forever. so here's a recap of events since last night:
surprise party...guests caught in snow...winter sex instead...lots of chocolate...soccer game...guy falls out of pickup truck....hahaha...dumbass.

well, we had some crappy news yesterday. shawna lost her job :( what really sucks is that she was doing a really good job, and it looks like she was pushed out by a jealous supervisor.
but there's no point dwelling on the past...she'll bounce back.
the weather hasn't let up; the cold weather alert has now been extended to monday, so it looks like we've got nothing to look forward to this weekend except more snow and staying indoors as much as possible. maybe we'll watch another movie - last night we watched "Danny Deckchair", which was cute and quirky, but not quite what i was expecting.
other than shawna's job situation, and this shitty weather, i don't have anything to rant about today. i think i may introduce a new segment on this blog: people i encounter. i don't have one today, but sometimes i run into unique, annoying, or just generally fucked-up people, and once in a while, a funny story may come of it. well, funny to me anyway.

yesterday was my birthday. i am now in my last year of my "mid-twenties" (that's 26 for anyone who can't do the math)
it was a fairly ho-hum day, the low-light being my drive in to work. i missed the train, so i had to drive into the city and take the subway. people were really over-reacting to what was really a very small amount of snow. long story short, i was in first gear most of the way down, and got to work almost 4 hours after leaving my house! (my normal commute is 1.5 hours, and the drive to the subway should normally take about 45 min; the subway was fine, only taking about 30 min)
the real festivities are this weekend, when i'll be doing something with my friends. now i just have to make it to tomorrow. i've got my first ultimate game tonight at 11pm - it's right downtown, so i won't make it home till about 12:45, then i'll try to get to sleep by 1, and wake up at 6:45...bah.

it's been a couple of days since my last post, but i haven't forgotten about the blog again yet.
i can't believe how cold it is outside. my car barely started, and my jacket turned brittle! last wednesday was like spring, but i'd prefer not to get these teases of warm weather, because it's a sign of impending extra-cold days. thursday is my first ultimate game with my new team...through the e-mails, everyone seems really cool, so i'm optimistic. there are some inexperienced players, but i don't care. i'm not concerned with winning, i just want to have fun. and i find it a lot of fun to share the sport that i've really enjoyed with people who haven't had the pleasure yet. what i hate more than anything else are people who think they're better than everyone else, and get ultra competitive - like the last team i was on, where we were betrayed by our teammates. i vow never to do something like that to anyone else because it's a really shitty feeling.
i'm not in a sarcastic mood today, so i apologize for not being very funny. maybe tomorrow the jokes will be flowing.

the other night, we had dinner at my aunt and uncle's house. the occasion? an out-of-town cousin was in with her husband and 5 month old daughter. what made this dinner interesting was that this cousin is a strict orthodox jew.
the dinner was a good time, even though we had to eat kosher food! somehow, at one point i got involved in a whole theological discussion with my cousin's husband, and a few other relatives. ironically, it was mostly about christianity! i was talking about the da vinci code and how it discusses the church's manipulation of history in order to push christianity into dominance. but it wasn't all serious...i also explained that most of what i know about christianity was culled from the book "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore. so i probably don't really know what i'm talking about!
my feet are cold.

it's thursday, which means that my anger at the world around me has been festering for 4 days now. society has always had a "me first" attitude, but lately it looks like it's degenerated to
"me only". you can see it everywhere: not holding doors for people, pushing and shoving to be first onto the train, and the list goes on. but today what's really pissing me off is the people who create their own spots in parking lots. people who don't want to walk an extra few steps decide to park in the middle of lanes, and block other people. not only is this a sign of arrogance, it is a sign of extreme laziness. now, don't get me wrong, i'm a lazy guy too, but every morning when i drive to the train station, i park in the further lot and walk for an extra minute. i have a number of reasons for doing this:
1) it gets me an extra bit of exercise
2) it saves a bit of gas by not driving around in circles trying to find a parking spot; i just take the first one i see
3) it's easier to get OUT of the parking lot when i return from work in the evening.
maybe i'm just a "big picture" thinker, instead of a "here and now" kinda guy. but it frustrates me to no end seeing asswipes get away with just about anything.
but at least it's unseasonably warm out today.

well...i'm a complete ass. last week, i was so gung-ho to book my trip to israel, i neglected to double-check with a friend whose wedding is in may. in my silly little mind, i thought his wedding was at the END of may. but of course, it's 2 days before we get home :(
of course, i feel terrible now. not only is it a good friend, i was supposed to be a groomsman. and besides all that, i was just plain looking forward to seeing my friend join the ranks of the married. but the worst of all is that now i have to get him an extra good gift...i mean, the worst is that i may have hurt that friend, and don't know how i can make it up to him and his fiancée.
i may as well run away in shame. but i'd better stop to buy some new clothes first, because i want to look my best.

apple and microsoft may not be so different after all. last week, in his keynote speech, bill gates was interrupted during his demo by the famous "blue screen of death". today, during steve jobs' speech at macworld expo, he ran into a snag too. but apple still kicks ass, and i'm looking forward to reading about the details of what's been unveiled today.
speaking of computers, i've been having some trouble with my editing computer at work today. really slows things down when i have to constantly restart it. fortunately, i'm almost finished the show i'm working on now.
tut tut, looks like rain.

he's back...kicking bottom or what!
as all of my zero readers haven't noticed, i haven't been publishing a blog in about 6 months. part of the reason is laziness, but a more important reason has been because of rogers. because of a merger with yahoo, the web space system changed, and i couldn't get my blog republished, cuz i'm apparently too dumb.
so today, i figured i'd try out blogspot.com and start up the blog again. this is partially thanks to my cousin tamar, who told me that she has a blog in israel, and got me thinking about posting again.
i don't have a lot to say, but here's an update to my life: i've been married 4 1/2 months, and we've been in our house for just over a month. things are going very well. our dog is happy to have a backyard where he can run around and bark at mysterious threats from bushes and dogs down the block. we're getting nicely settled, and i'm getting used to taking the train to work. it's actually not bad, except for the occasional person who can't stop making irritating noises, like sniffling, coughing, or yapping in random languages.
but don't let the domesticated appearance fool you: i'm still as sarcastic as ever, and possibly even more of a bastard.
